Costume for masqued ball.

I am going to make a mid 18th century dress after an original in Bayrisches Nationalmuseum Munic. Ill start with the propper underwear, because it gives the shape to the costume. It consists of Stays, hip panniers, jacket and skirt. The jacket has elbow lenght sleaves with pleated large cuffs. The enrire dress is made in shot silk taffeta, Lavender /green and its going to be trimmed with a scalloped gold braid.

This is the original dress in the possession of  BayrischesNational Museum Munic. Its dated mid. 18th century.

Its made from yellow silk damask and its trimmed with silver lace.

For underwear ill use this old charicature drawing, called "The old Coquette" Its rather precise in showing the correct underwear. Corset and hip panniers.

This is one of a pair of hip panniers in the possession of the danish National Museum, at Brede. Its made in coarse linnen and the hoops are made of wood.

It looks very like the side panniers in the charicature of "The old Coquette"

I will use this corset for the dress, its the 1770ies corset from "Corsets and Crinolines" by Norah Waugh. Its laced center back and has extra vertical bones round the bust.

This is the materials for the dress, a shot silk taffeta shot with Lavender and Green. + the scalloped gold braid.

Here is my drawing of the dress. The jacket is closed center front with small tabs over a stomacher. The jacket has 6 basques rond the waist.

The horisontal channels are stitched to a 3rd layer of fabric.

The stays are binded with a tape in the neckline and all the tabs in the waist.

The underwear is compleatly done. The shoulder straps has laceholes with drawstrings.

Seen from the back with spiral lacing center back in the stays.

Made 2 new sleaves with the type of cuffs i think fits this model the best.

Its open cuffs.

I started to trim the tabs over the stomacher with gold trimming. I could not use the scalloped braid for this, as it is two wide.

All the tabs are finnished with the gold trim.

The goldbraid is stitched on, and also the cotton lace.

At the back pieces, the peplum is gathered.

Nottingham lace for the sleave frills.
